I love to crochet!! An ex man friend of mine was actually the one to teach me this wonderful skill and ever since, I've been hooked ;) Pun intended! Beanies were the first thing I learned and over the years I have tried multiple variations, styles and colors which I will share with you eventually.
This is a very basic pattern, it is easy and quick and my husband loves it. I like to use Red Heart yarn because it is cheap and versatile. The soft yarn is really nice for beanies too.

Yarn: Worsted weight, 4: Medium, any color
Hook: Size I/5.50mm
Round 1: Create a Magic Loop (Click to see a video on how to make a Magic Loop) with 6hdc and put a place marker in the 6th st. When you hit the place marker on each round, it should be the last 2hdc stitch of the row.
Start increasing the top of the hat by working in the round:
Round 2: 2 hdc in each st = 12 st
Round 3: 1 hdc, 2hdc, repeat = 18 st
Round 4: 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, repeat = 24 st (You see the pattern? 1+1+2= 4, 4x6= 24)
Round 5: 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, repeat =30 st
Round 6: 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, repeat =36 st
Round 7: 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, repeat =42 st
Round 8: 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, repeat =48 st
Round 9: 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, repeat =54 st
Round 10: 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, repeat =60 st
Rounds 11-20 (or more): 1 hdc in each st = 60 st
Continue with hdc in each st until hat measures the length you want, the more rounds, the more saggy the beanie. Join the last stitch on the round with a slip stitch, cut your yarn about 4 inches long, pull the strand of yarn through the last loop and pull tight, weave in the ends.
